Moriz Rosenthal's Chopin

Starting at 14:15 in this video (the whole of which is well worth a listen), is one of the greatest performances of Chopin Concerto 1 Mov 2 that I have heard. It is by Moriz Rosenthal, grandpupil of Chopin (through Mikuli!) and pupil of Liszt.

Rosenthal's style is more reserved, "aristocratic," than the modern ear is used to. But it is a dignity tempered by tenderness, with some of the sweetest cantabile I have heard, and a real understanding, as the uploader notes, of the role of the piano as the lead singer. The tone is pearl-like, exquisite.
