Happy birthday, Glenn Gould!

There's really very little I can say about Gould which has not already been exhausted, so I'm going to let this snippet from Bach Partita 6 speak for itself (he starts playing at 2:53). Well, almost speak for itself. I just wanted to remind you, in case you forgot, that Gould was a phenomenal ambassador as well as virtuoso. He spoke about music almost as beautifully as he played, and to the public at large. In a world where academics can often be quite ivory-towered about the works they love (I'm speaking about the arts and humanities at large), speaking to each other rather than a wide readership, he's a role model to follow.
